I know I don’t have to convince you that the world is broken – a casual glance at the headlines of the day will confirm that. But there is a hopelessness that has settled in, even over the people of God. As believers we belong to the God of all hope, but when brokenness pounds on our front door and crashes in uninvited, it is easy to momentarily forget what we know to be true. We get overwhelmed and we respond with knee-jerk reactions. Or we freeze.
There are times, moments, situations, where we honestly just don’t know what to do.
During those times in my life, I’ve wanted a script or at least a plan to follow. You know, something like 10 steps to find a solution. I wanted these things so that the situation would be resolved, and I could get on with my life.
The Lord doesn’t really work that way.
My 2025 Series Message, A Path in the Dark, is a reverse engineering of my journey with the Lord. The seven truths I discuss in this message are truths that I held onto in the dark, truths that steadied me when everything around me was shaking, truths that led me into a deeper relationship with God. Knowing God helped me to trust Him, even when I didn’t understand what He was doing, and that led me to have hope no matter the circumstance.
Two of these truths are also weapons that help us to dig our heels in and push back against the darkness and brokenness. As believers, we know that brokenness doesn’t have the final word, but we forget that because we belong to God, we don’t have to put up with brokenness until the final battle, we have power to fight in the here and now as well. And when the world around us sees this kind of hope, they will want to know more about this God of all hope.

God loved his people so much that He wrapped up in flesh to live among us and rescue us from the power of sin and darkness. We can walk through every situation in this broken world with comfort and confidence that we do not walk alone.
